The Faculty of Economics was established in 1920 at the Taurida University. As the result of reorganisation of the University into the pedagogical institute in 1924, activity of the Faculty was suspended and resumed later in 1994 as the Faculty of Economics and Management. In 1999 the independent Faculty of Economics was organised.

8 Doctors of Science and 36 Candidates of Science work at the Faculty. Some of them are top managers of banks and large enterprises, experts and consultants of local government authorities. The number of full-time and correspondence students totals to approximately 1,500 persons, studying in four specialities. Furthermore, about 120 persons graduate annually from the Faculty with their second higher education in economics.

Currently, the faculty is teaching students in five specialties: "Economic Cybernetics", "International Economics", "Finance and Credit", "Accountingand auditing" and "Banking".

Graduates on the speciality 'Economic Cybernetics' acquire skills in three areas: Economics, Computer Technology and Applied Mathematics. They successfully work as economists, programmers, system analysts. Graduates on the speciality "International Economics" are trained to maintain the activity of enterprises of various forms of ownership and public institutions in the sphere of international economic relations. Graduates on the speciality 'Finance' work as economists at enterprises in various spheres of economics, in financial-credit establishments and organizations. Graduates on the speciality "Banking" are trained for organizational, administrative, analytical and research activity in the field of banking. They are trained to work on posts of all levels of hierarchical structure of banks and other financial-credit establishments, and also in research establishments.




The training of students is carried out under the curricula which include disciplines of the humanitarian and socio-economic cycle, cycles of fundamental and vocational training. The training is conducted under day time and correspondence forms of education. The term of training on day time branch on the educational-qualifying level of the bachelor makes four years, and on correspondence branch - five years. The term of training for day time and correspondence branches on the educational-qualifying level of the expert and the master makes one year. Pupils of graduation classes of secondary schools have an opportunity to be trained on the preparatory branch of TNU with the aim of the further receipt on the chosen speciality.

Major attention is paid to the theoretical and practical issues related to modem information technologies. The most successful graduates have an opportunity to improve their skills through postgraduate study. Now at THE FACULTY OF ECONOMICS the postgraduate study on three scientific specialities functions: 08.00.01 - the Theory of Economics and History of the Economic Idea, 08.00.02 - the World Economy and the International Economic Relations, 08.00.11 - Mathematical Methods, Models and Information Technologies in Economics. Students of this Faculty have an opportunity to continue their study in Europe in the framework of cooperation between TNU and the Universities of Nice and Perpignan (France) and Genoa University (Italy). 17 students received their First Degree Diplomas of Higher Education of France and nine of them continue their studies abroad through the Tempus-TACIS Project on the Environmental Economics of the Southern Ukraine.


Scientific Work


Complex scientific researches according to the developed concept of concentrization are conducted at the Faculty.

Concentrization is a methodical reception by means of which the quantity of the elements, additional in relation to the basic object, connected with it and in a various degree effecting completeness of research, increases or decreases.

The general theme of the scientific researches at the Faculty is "Mechanisms and information support for the integration of the Crimean economy in the global economy in the context of economic transformations of Ukraine". Scientists of the Faculty of Economics are making researches in the following directions: financial analysis; institutional development; investment projects and insurance risks assessment; regional integration cooperation; simulation techniques in economics. The substance of the above researches is related to the needs of economic development in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and is focused on practical achievements. Research products of the Faculty are widely applied by the Accounting Chamber, the Ministries of Economy and Finance, the Tourism Committee, the Crimean Employment Centre, etc. The Faculty members conduct seminars and roundtable meetings in ministries, agencies, banks, insurance and audit companies.




The Faculty keeps close contacts with universities and scientific institutes of Ukraine, including Shevchenko National University, Kiev National Economy University, Dnepropetrovsk State University, Sebastopol Technical University, and also with the countries of near and far abroad. Within the limits of several international projects the Faculty supports close communications with Genoa University (Italy), Nice and Perpignan Universities (France), Warsaw Higher Socioeconomic School (Poland), Minnesota University (the United States: the USAID-funded Project for Support of Management-Business-Education Development in Ukraine).







The joint European project Tacis-Tempus is being realized at the Faculty – The joint European project "Environmental Economics of Southern Ukraine" (JEP 10304/97 (1998-2000)) in which also participate the universities of France and Italy. According to the project, students of the speciality “Economic Cybernetics” may acquire specialization "modelling of the Environmental Economics".
